  • Hello,

I'm very new to this game and just donwloaded bunch of different mods (mostly trains).

Everything works fine, except that some of the train mods I've downloaded do not play "wheel sounds" - I don't know how exactly they are called, but basically these sounds: https://youtu.be/nNNfawstTIY?t=55s

Vanilla trains do play them just fine, as well as some other mod-trains I've added, but most of them do not. Instead, I hear only engine working, and some strange "bubble popping" sound that is definitely shouldn't be around trains. My guess is that odd "bubble popping" sound happens when the game tries to play "wheel sounds", but for some reason fails. Has anyone encountered something similar and/or any suggestions how to fix this?
Btw - in some mods I do not hear no "bubble popping" sound neither, just engine. Maybe not all modders add these sounds to their mods or something? All the mods I've downloaded are from this very website.

  • Yes, for example:

Siemens Desiro Classic bzw. BR 642
    ETR 1000 "Frecciarossa" v2.0 Build 5068
    BR 612

Now I've noticed, that I use TF Game Manager for these mods, and when I click on them it says that their format is TFMM, might it be because of this? Can I use both mod managers at the same time?

On the other hand, this mod
    DB BR 420

plays all sounds perfectly, however it says that its format is also TFMM.

Also I can't confirm it yet, should do more testing, but it seems that mods that have TFGM format, all of them play sounds perfectly.

Also I should note that the issue (as far as I can recall) is only with wheel sounds - engines and door sounds work fine no matter what format.

  • Now, I must warn you, due to the fact of these vehicles being mods, their authors may simply not have added that specific soundset.

In fact, after comparing the BR 420 to the BR 642 I have been able to find the source of this:

The BR 420 uses the ingame prebuilt soundset "train_electric_modern", while the BR 642 uses @fred1690s own custom-made soundset.
Just listening to the custom soundset files reveals, that it does not include the "wheel clacks", that apparently the prebuilt soundset includes.
So, this isn't really a problem or error, it's meant to be that way. And while you are welcome to ask @fred1690 if he feels like adding the wheel clacks, I sincerely doubt he will ;)
    "It's not a bug, it's a feature."

As to the popping sound, I have, as to this point, no idea what might be causing this. Does this sound occur only while playing TrainFever? Does it only occur only with specific mods? Is there maybe a way you could record the sound for us to listen to here?

On the topic of ModManagers, I would advise you to only use the internal/ingame ModManager, as I do, too.
The third party ModManagers only seem to confuse and cause trouble (no disrespect to their creators).
Of course this relies heavily on personal preferences and is up to you.

  • Thank you, yes, now I understand that wheel sounds are not added by the creators of the mods. Is there some simple way I could add them by myself? For me it's the most awesome sound a train can make, and not hearing it when "riding" the train just makes me sad :)

As for the "popping" sound, you can hear it here: https://youtu.be/gev89x0sH34?t=7m51s

I did some googling, and it appears it's quite a common issue when the file is looping:

    https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Looping_a_Sound
    http://www.compuphase.com/mp3/mp3loops.htm

However, this would not be an issue at all, if I somehow managed to add the wheel sounds:)

Yes, thank you, that's exactly what I did now!

  • Okay, now I understand.
Can you tell me if the popping still occurs on a new map, with few mods? Or only after many years of ingame time have passed and the map is full of trains?
I'm pretty sure, this sound only happens due to lack of processing power, as I have also experienced this sound, however, only during massive performance issues.

As to adding your own wheel clacks, yes, you can do it yourself! It requires a little bit of tinkering, but I managed to set up custom sounds for my BBÖ 1029, so it's definately possible.
There is just one small problem, the tutorial is currently only available in german: Sound Set
However the examples used look the same for every language, so maybe it's possible to do it simply by studying the vanilla files.

    Good luck! :)
