Awesome mod! It's great to see more Taiwan trains. Any plans for the EMU700 or EMU800? Also, did you see the recent news about the new commuter train the TRA will be purchasing from Hyundai Rotem?

Hey everyone! My new train mod is available now! This is one of the commuter trains in Taiwan.

Is it cool to make a request? If not, I can post in the requests forums.

Mainly, I'd like to ask if it's cool with MaikC if someone could do a repaint of the Budd RDC in the colors of the Taiwan Railways DR2700 and DR2800. The DR2700/2800 were both based on the RDC, though there are slight differences. Mainly, there are three liveries, the DR2700 "White Steel Train", the DR2700 with the yellow front, and the DR2800 with more modern yellow and orange coloration. Here's some wiki entries:

    DR2700 (English)
    DR2700 (Chinese)

    DR2800 (Chinese)

If you do a Google image search of "TRA DR2700" or "TRA DR2800" there's some decent pictures for the liveries. Also, this guy's website is a good resource for everything Taiwan Rail (TRA) related if someone wanted to delve deeper into Taiwan's rail history (I know there's one other modder who has already done the E200 electric locomotive):

    Some general info:

The DR2700 and DR2800 were built by Tokyu Car and the body and bogies were licensed from Budd based on the RDC. The DR2700 was introduced in 1966, with 25 vehicles in the order, plus 6 DR2750 unpowered cars. It generally operated as either units of 2 (2700+2700) or 3 (2700+2750+2700) and in configurations of 4 (2+2), 8 (3+2+3), or 10 (2+3+3+2). It was at the time the fastest rail service in Taiwan, and quickly replaced steam service on the Western Line. Originally it was powered by a Cummins NHHRTO-6-B1 giving it 335HP, and had a top speed of 110 km/hr. It was nicknamed the "White Steel Train" due to it's lack of paint when originally put into service. They served exclusively on the West Coast line until 1979 with the completion of electrification on the West Line, and they were transferred to service the Yilan Line. At some point they received a new paint job which consisted of painting the cab end of the control cars yellow.

In 1983, with the completion of the Northern Link and the connection of the East and West coast lines, the TRA placed an order for more vehicles. Although essentially the same vehicle, due to the numbering scheme, the TRA designated these vehicles 2800 and 2850 (generator car). They were equipped with a slightly more powerful Cummins NT855-R4 producing 315 HP. At this time, some of the DR2700s had their engines replaced with the same Cummins NT855-R4 as the DR2800. The DR2800 operated exclusively as units of 3 (2800+2850+2800) and in configurations of 6, 9, or 12.

In 1997, the six DR2750 cars were removed from service to reduce stress on the aging engines of the DR2700s. At this time the DR2700s were slowly relegated towards branch lines or peak commuter relief. As of 2014 there is only one DR2700 train left in special preservation service, and two DR2700s which are utilized as service vehicles for overhead lines on the electrified portions of the railway.

In 2001, the DR2800s had their engines upgraded to the same 350 HP Cummins NTA855-R1 that powers the TRA's DR3100. The DR2800s still serve on the East Coast Line in branch service, or the unelectrified Southern Link between Kaohsiung and Taitung.

If someone is interested in modding the 700, is it possible to make an alteration to make the THSR 700T? It's the variant of the Shinkansen 700 that was purpose built for Taiwan's HSR system. Some photos:
