I just posted this on another forum and then it occurred to me that it might be a good idea to post it here. I'd be interested in hearing people's opinion on the subject.

I recently bought a VR headset and I'm blown away by it. So I naturally started thinking of the possibilities for VR in Transport Fever. I know what most of you are probably thinking - Transport Fever is not a game that would translate well into VR. And I would agree with you for the most part. The current VR technology causes eye strain. Especially when displaying small text. So a game like Transport Fever where a person often plays for a long time at one sitting wouldn't work.

BUT what would be awesome would be a VR viewer built into Transport Fever 2. That way you could build your current railroad creation using a monitor (not VR) and then pop on the VR mask at any time and jump INTO your creation.

That would also mean that people could build a custom saved game. Then assuming the file size can be kept small enough the person could upload it so that other people could use it with their VR sets. Think about it. Instead of viewing someone's video of a highly detailed freight yard in action as you can do now you would actually be in the middle of it.

The VR viewer could be as simple as having a platform to stand on along with some standard move, turn and teleport options. You would also need a play/pause button and a elevator type control. There would also need to be a few tools for the scenario creators such as specifying the starting point of the person viewing the scenario. Map size and total units on the map might have to be limited for VR so there might need to be a tool to handle those things.

I think the possibilities would be awesome. It would give individual gamers the ability to create VR railroad scenarios.

I could see one argument might be why waste time on a VR viewer when there are other things more important to the game. In my opinion a VR viewer would probably help sell more games because it would introduce the game to VR users who never knew it existed. So it wouldn't "cost" anything to add it. I could even see places like railroad museums offering this for visitors. Which would be great free publicity.

Well if any of the developers look at this thread. I hope they agree with me.

The map used to create this video is very active and includes a lot of interesting scenarios. Included in the map are large cities, several freight yards, an operating quarry, a scenic lake, and a lot of traffic with large ships, a busy airport, and various road vehicles. And of course trains, trains, and more trains!

This video uses a large number of mods. Thank you for the mod makers who make Transport Fever a better game!

I have a question. Many of the screenshots in this thread include large amounts of the same bush or tree type in one picture. How is this done?

When I select bushes or trees in the game a random type is selected each time making it difficult to repeatedly add the same type. Is there a way around this?

The video starts in Allentown right after picking up a load of passengers. First you pass through the Allentown tunnel before winding your way down to the valley. Harrisburg which then leads to the pass through lanes for Harrisburg Passenger Station. Once out of Harrisburg you follow the river to the Pittsburgh Passenger Station where you drop off and pick up passengers before returning to Allentown.

This is a video of the St Louis Food Freight Line. You are riding in a 4-8-8-4 Big Boy Steam Locomotive. The video starts in Pittsburgh right after dropping off a full load of food. Where are two stops: First you want to travel to the Chicago area. Both stops are used to pickup livestock. The livestock is now delivered to St. Louis. The food is now delivered to Pittsburgh to complete the trip.

If a mod has already been made for this could somebody please tell me where to find it?

If no mod has been made then I could try to do something. I'm familiar with Lua but have no idea what needs to be done within the game to make this work. If somebody could give me some pointers on what is needed I could give it a try.

Would it be possible to make a mod where the user can request reserved space when building a train station? For example the user could build a 100 meter cargo station and request the size of a 350 meter cargo station. The result would be that a 100m station would be built at the specified location and the space required for a 350m station upgrade would be reserved around it. The game should not be able to build anything in the reserved space after the initial station is placed. But the player can still place things if they want. The player can also upgrade the station at anytime without conflicting with anything that they did't place themselves.
