I think we did it. The lighting in the foreground is no longer on the blue side and the scattering makes the mountains glow blue towards the horizon now.

Oh-yeah! Look at that, that's a whole lot better! Looking forward to test it with different terrains and vegetations. What DDS settings are you using, by the way?

The blue tint in the very front doesn't come from fog or scattering effects but from the environment cubemaps that are used by the PBR materials. As there is a bright blue sky in the skybox/envmaps, it's visible on every object. If the sky is blue, it's color is visible in all of the material reflections and there is no way around this.

That was what I was a little afraid of. Thanks for clearifying. Still very happy- and grateful your work!

Don't get me wrong: Exactly. Your horizon is pretty much spot on, if not even a little less blue than it should, as you say. :) It's just that the area nearby is not supposed to be as blue. Here's an example, though slightly over saturated. The glacier in the background is about 20km away. Here's a few more examples on the blue tint change.

But. Getting it to do that might be very tricky, and require a few more passes in the shaders. I'm not a shader wizard, like you, so I won't speculate too much. This is a tricky topic, anyway. It depends on air humidity, sun direction, pollution and whatnot. ^^ People are probably used to different things.

This is a tricky one, UnixRoot, and I'm nitpicking a bit: While you're right about the blue when it comes to the horizon, nearby objects are a bit too blue. Sky itself is perfect, though! I'm guessing the rendering methods doesn't simulate the amount of air in the different directions, scattering the blue light, too well. That's also why the horizon should be more blue than the view nearby. The one Grimes posted is better. Shadows look a bit better rendered, too. Anyways, I'm still very, very happy about the mod, and thanks for the amazing work, guys!

You probably already know it already, as you've done a whole lot right with the shaders, but here's more on the topic, and a source: https://spaceplace.nasa.gov/blue-sky/en/
