Hello there,
Up until now, there has only been road traffic in the Nosel Valley as fixed routes on which buses, trucks and cars drive. Since I now have a much more powerful computer and there are also a few cars that are only available as assets and in AI traffic, such as the Citroen DS from the workshop, I wanted to try my hand at AI traffic using people magnets.
The magnets must have street access, then there must be residential, commercial and industrial magnets, all with access to the street network. The automatic connection is not enough, there really has to be a junction from the magnet to one of the streets.
I did this with the Advanced Person Magnet (APM), but in the vast majority of cases only pedestrians came out of the residential magnets. They then either walked to their destinations or used the Nosel Valley's public transport.
In a second attempt, I moved the residential magnet to an area without public transport lines. The COM magnet was also far outside the network, as was the IND magnet, but again all with road access. A total of three Sims came out of the RES magnet (capacity 50), one pedestrian and two drivers. The drivers both drove to the COM magnet, drove back home and then did not leave their house again. When I clicked on the details, there was no pin next to the text "Industrial building" for either of them, so it was not clear which industry they would go to for work. The industrial building with road access was a good bit further away than the COM building, but not accessible by public transport.
How can I get functioning AI traffic that also runs along places where it can be seen when riding on the train? Logically, there are no trains in areas without public transport connections.
Does the distance from RES to COM or IND play a role?
Is there perhaps a mod that reliably spawns cars and that can be camouflaged as well as the APM?
In any case, it is not the case that RES, COM and IND magnets with road access necessarily generate car traffic.
Even though I now have more computing power, it is still not infinite. That is why I would rather use the computing power to move as many vehicles as possible, rather than to create loads of Sims standing around on some train platform, shrugging their shoulders. That is also why the towns in the Nosel Valley are still ghost towns. Residents are flown in from the remote passenger airports in Munich Riem and London Stansted. I can find them quickly and reduce the numbers if performance drops. It will take longer until I have depopulated hundreds of houses again.
I can also use waypoints to specify exactly where lines go. If the AI traffic looks for a dirt road as a shortcut, which only the farmer in charge should actually be using, then the only thing that helps is to tear down the dirt road. That's why I would like to have additional AI traffic, if possible, on the Nosel riverside roads, where public transport also runs. Is AI traffic even possible like this or should I wait until someone makes the Citroen DS available to buy in the depot?
