Northampton Castle Station, 1932

The LMS's London - Nottingham express seen waiting for the exit signal at the northern end of the newly re-built Northampton Castle Station. This forms part of the merged Midland and West Coast Mainline. Further ahead, trains can divert west to Birmingham New St & Liverpool Lime St, east to Leicester for Nottingham, or carry on ahead for the direct route into Sheffield, Leeds City Low Level and out onto the West Coast. The goods sidings can just be seen on the right. It won't be long before coronation pacifics are passing through here at speed.
