Ein Umbau war nötig da der Kopfbahnhof immer wieder Kopfschmerzen in der Leitwarte verursachte. Außerdem musste eine neue Linie nach Perlitz angeschlossen werden, nachdem der Tunnelbau abgeschlossen war und zwisching Thaining und Perlitz keine großen Umwege mehr notwendig sind.
