    A few hours in 3DS max and the locomotive is beginning to look proper. A number of invisible fixes to the cab have been made, and the tanks, tank supports, and plow have been added, as well as the bulge on top of the long hood. You cannot see it because it is on the far side, but the short hood has had the large grille cut out, and will get louvers added to it. The locomotive currently has 1613 polys.

    Personally I like this version the best: http://www.svenska-lok.se/Fotos/MotorSJ/SJ_T43_222_2010.jpg /Anton

    When I started doing lots of research on the locomotive, I realized that is the first livery it wore. I think that one is the most appropriate for the DLC pack.

    For those who like the T43, I have been working on it, but it has been slow because I do not use 3DS max very much. Unfortunately, the rounded edges did not turn up very well in the render. Currently the locomotive has 734 polygons.

    @LVBfreak says:

    Hello everyone. Many of you have probably tried to build a light rail system in TF. There were, until now, two options: lay tram tracks on the road and suffer from decreased throughput with cars slowing down the trains, or a railway route in the middle of the city which requires buildings to be destroyed and you cannot use trams. It is impossible for trams to run on regular tracks in Train Fever, right? Not only cantrams run on regular tracks, but it only takes 5 minutes of work to accomplish. This example uses the Be 5/6 tram, but the process works on all trams.

    Open your Train Fever directory (for steam users, this is \Steam\steamapps\common\Train Fever\), find \res\models\model\vehicle\tram\ and copy the “be5_6.mdl” and paste it in \res\models\model\vehicle\train\. Open this file, and scroll to the bottom. You will see the text,

    carrier = "TRAM",

    Which you will replace with,

    carrier = "RAIL",

    This changes the tram from running on tram track to regular track. If you want to change the speed of the vehicle, simply change

    TopSpeed = 70,

    to a speed you desire. You are done!

    Note: you will want to build double-track lines so the train does not block the other direction when it stops. For the terminus, it is recommended to use a waypoint with a turnaround track because the train turning does not look nice. Also, you will need to have at least one station for the route to be completed. I hope you have lots of fun with your new light rail lines.

    I have wanted to make a locomotive for TF for a long time. Perhaps now is my chance!

    I think the SJ T43 will fit nicely into the history for the game. The T43 is the locomotive that (according to the Internet) helped Sweden move from steam to diesel. This could be painted in the SJ orange + gray livery if it suits the community. Among other choices, this amusing livery: http://www.sebtus.de/img_big/DK3700.jpg.

    I can Make 3D models without problem, but I am not a graphic artist, so I may need help with the textures. I am also having trouble finding tutorials for importing models into the game. Still, I want to contribute my skill to this DLC.

    The closest subforum that I could think of was this one. It's not exactly a vehicle repaint, but it somewhat resembles a gameplay change.

    I was somewhat disappointed at the very European-style icons for vehicles, so I decided I would 'Americanize' them. This mod changes the icons displayed above vehicles and stations, as well as relevant UI icons for train stations, train depots, and the list of vehicles. Please note: red outlines are not included in the mod.

    For those who are curious, the icons are based off of the following:
    Diesel locomotive: EMD F-unit
    Electric locomotive: loosely based on a T-3 electric (NYC boxcab)
    Truck: pickup truck with box
    Trolley: generic bi-directional trolley
    Passenger station: common road sign
    Freight station: modification of the passenger station

    Get the mod here!

    Because of the availability of plans, I am making an RS-3 instead of an RS-1. The particular RS-3 plans that I am working off of are a Southern railway unit which has a steam generator for passenger cars, which can be seen with its water tank in between the air tanks, and stack for the generator sticking up a little above the cab on the short hood. It is intereting to note that in the early days of dieselization, builders were not using high-volume production techniques, so changes between each railroad's orders was possible without large increases in cost, so "the definitive RS-3" is hard to pin down because there are so many different kinds of them, and the same applies to the entire lifetime of steam locomotive building in America.

    I still have some work to do on it such as the handrails and bogie frames and wheels.

    At some point I will make a thread for it in the other section once I have a few models made.

    That looks mighty fine. You're obviously really good at texturing, which is something I could never figure out. On the other hand, the ingame models look strange when they aren't scaled down. Other than that, I can't wait to see what you make in the future!

    Perhaps when I get the chance this weekend I can begin modeling some locomotives. The gaps in the USA DLC are very obvious and annoying. Except for the first years with the Baldwin 0-6-0 and 4-4-0, there is a very obvious lack of choices in locomotives, and follows a very obvious path of "faster and stronger and more expensive" which does not seem to be very realistic. Not to mention the general lack of electric locomotives even though there are many examples (not to imply that they were popular in America, but there were many different locomotives, and a lot were third-rail instead of pantograph).

    My thought is that I will first create an ALCO RS-1 because it was the first road switcher, then make an EMD FT which was the first big nail in steam's coffin, then one of the later F-units (I will not worry about the E-units because passenger locomotives are covered by the ALCO PAs) and play it by ear after that. I will probably need to find a texture artist because I am not as good at that as I am with making meshes.

    I like these very much. I used only the interurbans and freight motors to transport things, and I was earning money hand over fist. I noticed that the wooden model seems to be quite large on the rails: when the cars take a sharp turn, the wheels are obviously too wide for the tracks. I think the model should be scaled down a small amount, because they are incredibly large when on the streets. It might be because the tram rails are narrower than the normal rails, but I do not know. Other than the scale, the quality of the models is very good, and I cannot wait to be able to use the Electroliner in the game.
