Like I said to you on steam, it's looking great! Keep it up!
More than happy to help you get it working in game once the model is done. It'll be a popular mod for sure ![]()

The British Rail Class 86 is a class of electric mixed traffic locomotives built in the 1960s to replace steam power on the newly electrified West Coast Main Line.
100 of them were built, making them the most numerous type of electric locomotives built for Britain's railways. When British Rail was privatized in the mid 1990s, the whole fleet of Class 86 locomotives were passed on to several operators. They have been gradually withdrawn by most operators since 2003, being replaced by more modern locomotives such as the Class 66 or Class 90. However Freightliner continues to operate 19 of them today, with several more in "warm storage" that could be returned to service if needed.
Some of the withdrawn examples were sold overseas; 7 went to Bulgaria and 24 to Hungary.
3 have entered preservation.

Is anyone out there able to help?
Nevermind. Perseverance pays off. Got the audio sorted out.
Nearly done...

Is anyone out there able to help?
I'm having a slight problem setting up a custom sound_set for this.I've literally copied the sound_set for train_steam_old and re-directed the referenced .wav files to my own. I've done nothing else to the code. My audio files are all saved as .wav at 44.1kHz, 16 Bits, Mono.
Ingame, it plays my whistle, and the fast sound effect, but none of my 10 chuffs. I really have no idea why my chuffs aren't working. Is there something special that needs to be done with chuff wav files? Why is it playing my other sound effects but not the chuffs?
...I've been fighting this all afternoon and getting nowhere, it's driving me up the wall...

Getting closer to finished...
-
Texturing started...
-
Nno problem.

Google translate does pretty well, and my basic German fills in the gaps
-
Schaut gut aus nur der fehlende Zylinder hat mich erstmal verwirrt
hat die einen innenliegenden Zylinder?(thanks google translate :p )
Yes, it has 2 internal cylinders. I've modelled them in and animated them, at the correct angle you can see the piston rods driving the wheels in the gap under the boiler.

Modelling done

Tender added on this afternoon's livestream

Still need to add the tender's wheels plus some other small details. Getting close to texturing stage.
Zitat von BritishTrainsIt makes me want to get back into modding.
I hope you do someday. Would certainly like to see your Train Fever mods updated for Transport Fever.

Livestreamed more progress this morning

You're right, it should be 25*1.6/3.6 m/s, which is the same value you used, sorry for the mistake.
No worries. It did actually nudge me into checking all the numbers over again, on this and my Britannia, and there's no harm in that

-
And in this case, if I converted the heating area sq ft correctly to m2, 4F would have 923hp
Hopefully I didn't confuse
No additional confusion
but that figure of 923hp is actually much closer to what I originally hoped, just looking at it from a simple "whereabouts would it fit in gameplay-wise" approach... -
25/1.6/3.6 m/s
Is this bit right?
25mph is 11.176 m/s, and I got a figure of 109.23kN for the 4F's wiki page.
So I did 11.176*109.23 = 1220.75 kW, ~ 1637.05 hp.What you seem to be doing above is converting 25mph to 4.34 m/s, which is too slow, then multiplying that by the Newtons resulting in a much lower number...
Applying your calculation to the Standard Class 7, from 50mph (mixed traffic locos used 50mph I believe) it results in 1664 hp (or just 832hp if we used 25mph), that's considerably weaker than the game's Flying Scotsman.
-
Yep, I used the correct units... Did the math again, checked and double checked... same result.
I guess the 4F was just stronger than I thought :p -
Not sure if I'm doing it wrong somewhere... but I came up with a figure of 1,637 hp... That seems a bit high... I was guesstimating 800-900...
-
Nice tech details, but it's a pity they didn't do exact horsepower on these old locomotives... I can probably work out the tractive effort from that, but working out the horsepower from that I don't think can be done...

-
Well now that the Standard 7 is done, on to the next project.
I'm not keeping it secret this time.

The LMS Fowler 4F is a 0-6-0 steam locomotive designed for medium freight work. They were a modified Midland Railway 3835 Class, which entered production in 1911. About 770 of these locomotives were built between 1911 and 1941, serving on the LMS until all of them were entered into British Rail stock in 1948 where they quickly spread across Britain. The 4Fs finally started to be withdrawn in 1959 and the last one was withdrawn in 1966.
3 survive in preservation.https://upload.wikimedia.org/w…lway_geograph-2189845.jpg

Surprise!
Been working on this secretly for a while. I hope you all like it
The Standard Class 7, known as the 'Britannias', was British Rail's effort to combine the best locomotive design aspects from the 'big 4' pre-nationalisation British railway companies. They were fast and powerful, suited to both passenger and freight work. They were well liked by their crews.
55 were built, 2 survived into preservation, including no. 70000 'Britannia', the first of her class. On the workshop now:
