@killakanz Will definitely change this. Thanks for pointing it out.
@GrijzePilion I attempted to make the sides slanted, Sketchup just doesn't allow it to work, tried it a number of ways but could not make anything that looks decent without completely ruining other parts the model.
Edit by Yoshi: merged double post.
SketchUp isn't very well suited for complex, nuanced shapes. It's a tool mostly for architectural applications, and the tools it offers for creating natural shapes are restrictive and cumbersome.
I know it's easy to criticize others and tell them what to do instead, but I worked with SketchUp for a very long time and then switched over to Blender; if you want to save yourself time and effort, I strongly recommend it.
I'll have to agree with GrijzePilion. I'm not a fan of Blender (mainly because of the UI), I use 3DS Max instead, but as the free options go Blender is 100x better than Sketchup and it is usually the program I tell people to try when they ask me how to get into making 3D models. The online learning material available for Blender is also unmatched by anything else.
I might have a look at doing some smaller projects at first with blender, I've used sketchup for a while so I know what I'm doing when it comes to more complex shapes like the small details on the 91. @killakanz I fixed the buffers to make them larger and more oblong, as requested.
Is it possible to download this mod, even in it's Alpha state?
I am looking forward to see more of this train, because what i saw of the video it looks amazing.
This is an announcement. I am re-initiating the 225 project!
Apologies for the downtime, but I think its time I tried again! Thanks for all the support on the previous version, this next one will be hundreds times better! I am working solo now, as 1; the whole Velvet thing and 2; I finally understand everything
Locomotive body and undercarriage complete!
After around 3 weeks of modelling, I have designed a body and undercarriage that are accurate and of a high quality. Unlike the previous model, this one features the slanted sides, proper measurements and rounded corners. Some details will be added with normal maps but for now Im only going to make minor adjustments if anyone sees anything that needs correcting and will also add the buffers at the rear. I will update you all when I finish up the bogies and get the locomotive into the game, which will be the next stage.
Hello all, I have finished off the exterior details and am now working on normal maps for the 91, no texturing has been done. I have used the bogies from the original that Velvetmafia made for me as a placeholder and managed to get the train in game, no texturing has been done as of yet. Work will start on the Mk4 exteriors later this week.
More can be found on my gallery.
SO ITS BEEN A WHILE...
Fear not! The project is still happening, had a bunch of issues with the model but they are all ironed out now. Good progress has been made!
Seen here with the electronics and the undercarriage (both yet to be finished) in situ. Mockup textures have been started and will post some more renders of them later on.
It looks very good.
this is the first time ive heard someone making this majestic loco and now im going to add it to my watch list also by the looks of things they could be a christmas drop? if it is then it will be the best TPF christmas mod for sure!
Intercity 225 set enters "Phase II"
With the class 91 locomotive entirely finished, I can now focus on the rest of the train. The majority of the DVT or "Driving Van Trailer" for the South end of the train is complete, however work on the interior and undercarriage is still needed. As for Mk4 coaches, the main body is done alongside the bogies, but the interior and doors are far off finished.
The improvement from box thing with probably stolen textures to smooth boi with nice textures is a huge jump, can't wait to see the Mk4s!
EthanHalstonTurbon in someways the driving part of the locomotive is still boxy and by boxy i mean the class 91 has that look of it being made of cardboard with how squarish they look while they are classic british trains they are not as good looking as the older class 43's and i still hope this will be a christmas drop as from what i heard TpF mods will be backwards compatible with TpF2 saving modders alot of time and hard work
