Make freight platforms have the normal track design. As a platform fills with the resource, instead of showing crates it spawns a train car that corresponds to that resource. Make a platform for each era and region. As the station receives and sends off resources the train yard fills with train car assets. It makes a rail yard look more dynamic and busy.
