Today I bring you another truck project, this time a light truck, the EBRO B series, based on Ford Thames models.
Since the mid-1910s Ford had factories based in Spain and Portugal, branded as "Ford Motor Iberica" but after the Spanish Civil War and WWII, the Spanish dictatorship reached an agreement with Ford to buy their plants based in Spain(located in Cadiz and Barcelona).
Then in 1954, "Ford Motor Iberica" was split in two, "Ford Lusitania" for Portugal and the part sold to the Spanish government, that got renamed "Motor Iberica". But this agreement, also included that the Spanish brand should keep using the Ford patents and also remain in production the Ford models that were in production at that moment.
This way, Motor Iberia became a brand oriented to industrial vehicles(since the beginning of the Spanish Civil War, Ford ended the car production) keeping the Fordson tractors and the Ford Thames light trucks in production. Motor Iberica needed a new brand name to commercialize those models, so they decided that if the Ford truck was named "Thames" due to the British river, the Spanish-built models should be called "Ebro" in reference to the largest Spanish river.
So finally in 1955, the Tractors got renamed as EBRO A (but the "A" never appeared in the vehicle), and the Thames trucks were presented as EBRO B series. It was presented in two versions B35 and B45, according to their max load.
Now some pics of the model:
B35 with factory-built universal bay.
The B35 remained in production until the mid-70s (with very few modifications), so these little trucks became a classic on Spanish roads for almost 4 decades(including the Ford production period), even when the C and D series were released. But also the B-series became a model widely used in towns, with very special versions, adapted to be used as a delivery truck, like the "Bottle trucks", used to delivery Soda, beer, milk and others.
Here a long chassis B35 adapted to carry soda bottles: -
Ahh, so wunderful. I really love your lorries, especially because you can select the load and also if half or fully loaded. That's so great to have when using them as assets only.
