  • I've made a repaint mod for Jone's DV12 series 2500 mod from the workshop, adding a white and green VR livery but i can't seem to get the thing into the model editor to take menu screenshots, it always throws an error saying a mesh is missing, but i thought repaints weren't supposed to include meshes, and instead relies on the original mod to provide them?

I'm clearly missing something obvious but i dont know what, every thread everywhere else just says "load it into the model editor to get your menu screenshots" or something like that but no matter what i do it keeps throwing errors. ;(

I can't find any resources that help and i've been at this for around 2 hours now.

    does anybody have any ideas?

Every time it shows this error:

At one point i tried adding the missing mesh from the original mod into my repaint mod and then it showed another error, it's like the model editor isn't detecting the files from the other mod

    please help :D

  • aircon_lod0.msh is likely the alphabetically first mesh and, hence, the first one looked for by thw .mdl. If so, adding it will trigger the same fault when the 2nd mesh is called upon.

Try taking the original mod into the ME and see if You can open the .mdls. If so, add Your new .mdls, .mtls and texture files into the original mods directories. Then the ME should be able to open Your .mdl and You can test it.

For upload, of course, etiquette and copyright will require the removal of everything You did not create Yourself from the directory tree - only Your adapted .mdl, the associated new .mtö and Your texture files are to remain.

  • AHA yes, that worked first try! Thank you so much!

I was starting to suspect the model editor couldn't properly load repaints, I never thought to do that though, I built the repaint mod up from the example mod given on tpf2 modding wiki just so I wouldn't accidentally include a file i wasn't supposed to, didn't realize the meshes and everything were required to get the model viewer working 😅

now i can get my menu icon screenshots :D
