  • Hello TF2 community!

I've just started my first free play as a total newbie, and I can't seem to find on why my bakery doesn't produce bread AT ALL. I was able to conclude down the root of my issue in this area, because bread is successfully produced if I directly connect the train station to this facility, but I would prefer to transport the food via trucks towards the station.

    These are all my connections:

    1. Wheat transport to bread facility
    2. Cargo train towards a city
    3. Truck station on that other station where the supplies should be unloaded via unload truck stops in the city

    Thanks for the help!

  • I've not been playing this game for long myself, but I like to share a few thoughts. There are a few things you could check:

    - As far as I can see I think the truck station is too far away from the bakery. Are you sure it's connected to the facility?

    - Your screen shot says the food plant IS producing food, but its need for grain is higher than the provided amount. Did you check the supply chain? Is grain coming in on a constant rate, enough for keeping the factory from running empty?

    - It's possible the truck station and the train station are too far away from each other. I experienced this behaviour as well, and I was able to solve the problem by connecting two stations by the use of an extra road. Just the smallest road possible will do the trick, even if it's just a small pedestrian way or a one way road.

    - The opposite can be true as well: maybe the produced food just "chooses" the fastest transport available within reach. Meaning: if there's both a truck station and a train within reach to the facility, why should the produced food take a truck in the first place? From the game's point of view, that doesn't make much sense.

    - If you choose to combine trucks and trains, why do you place the truck station that far away from the facility? If you do want to use a combination of trucks and trains, you should place the truck station attached directly to the factory and see that the train station is NOT connected to the factory.

    - Did you buy the right kind of trucks to transport food? Did you order them to pick up AND UNLOAD(!) the right kind of goods?

    - Did you order your trucks to wait for a full load at their station before driving to the train station? If so, just send the first truck in line to the train station by clicking the return symbol, even if it has not loaded a single loaf of bread. Sometimes a combined transport chain needs some kind of kick in the a... to get started properly.

Finally, I would like to advice you to take a look at the mods that can be found in the download area. There are many mods that will be of great help and relief in a free game. The game is really great, but it's my impression that the makers might have been thinking: "let the players do most of the work, we just provide the very basics!" The game comes with just the absolute minimum of buildings, vehicles and roads needed to actually play the game. But only the mods provided by all the passionate modders will finally get you the icing!

There's a mod called "Spitzkehre" which I use most of the times whenever I want to build a train station near a factory. Technically, a "Spitzkehre" is a dead end track for trains, used to change directions, eg. when climbing up a hill without the need for large curves and turns. This mod, however, can be set to allow connection to a factory, and then it will act as a station, but without the need for any building. It is just a piece of track that a train can use to load or unload and you can attach it directly to a factory, making it look a bit like it really belongs to that factory. It's one of my favourite mods for this game! :)
