  • Given that TpF3 has added tram-trains to the mix, I've started working on creating some signs to be placed at interface sections, signaling the transition between heavy-rail and tram networks.

These signs in particular are based on those found on German tram-train networks and partially genericised.

Also, a set of pictogram signs was created, in case someone wants language-neutral signage.

Something is off with the normal maps of the retainer brackets in Blender's renderers, but I can't figure out what.

Hopefully it won't carry over into the game.

    Large sign has 360 tris.

    Small sign has 144 tris.

Total of ~8 MB of uncompressed textures thus far.

The greatest challenge for me is bringing these into the game, as I have no idea what to do at this point.

Hope you like the progress thus far. Cheers!

  • Having put the sign into the model editor, the normal issues appear to be far less noticable, but unfortunately don't seem to disappear.

But another problem arises: My performance-minded way of modelling doesn't seem to play too nicely with the rendering engine and unless I can figure out how to disable shadow-casting for certain meshes, I'll need to relegate this model to LOD1 and model the brackets, decal and board with proper thickness.

Besides that, I'm currently running against a wall trying to get the sign to appear in-game as an edge object. The official documentation is a didactic nightmare for a newbie, community documentation is (understandably) not quite there yet and LLMs are of no use explaining it for dummies as of now.
I guess that's part and parcel of modding a new game.

It would be kind if someone could break it down on how to make a track-side signal/sign in TpF3. All this coding stuff required just to get a decoration into the game is very confusing.

    Cheers!
