The rims on the flatbed truck look great!!! You should mount them on all your trucks
I like them a lot too, and you know what; they are the new Vanilla rims for the MAN.
I'll use them more in the future for sure. Repainting them is a different story, I mean that will need a new image for the entire MAN truck so is a bit overkill.
-
A bit better is the 3d special screenshot, but at this angle you get a less good overview, and still had to reduce the image sizes to stay below the 1MB.
A 3rd preview (beta) is also on it's way as I couldn't resist using the new & improved vanilla MAN truck as cargo, it will need the beta test release, hence I'll spoil the forum with this aside the standard preview.
-
2 models that will probably be the preview ones are done.
I found that the quality of the textures used by the model editor screenshot feature is a slightly reduced

-
The result is, that either modders are capable of optimizing models and their meshes folders are (way) under 20 MB or they are completely off and go (way) over 40 MB.
I think your assessment is wrong.
You can not just look at the size of the mesh folder and make a judgement on the performance of an individual model. When a mod has multiple lods there will be more meshes and the folder will be larger, but the performance of the mod is generally better. Also take into account that one model often does not use all meshes; When a mod has 25 vehicle models with variations that is a significant difference when compared to a mod with just one model. And there is more that impacts performance, such as animations, sounds, included vanilla items such as cargo and characters, and of course the size of the used materials.
Now I admit my method is rather unconventional as it does increase mesh size, or rather the number of mesh files, however that is more than compensated by the way I apply materials. I use very few bump maps (which are the larger files and impact performance most) and have many materials and even meshes that are shared across my mods. The game will then only load one, even though they may be included in all the mod folders.
To make a proper judgement on performance you should really look in game at the performance.

Progressing with the asset menu for the DAF's.
I haven't made it easier on myself, but with a good cause. For the 3 axle trucks there will be 4 positions to select for the 5th wheel, therewith I can assure all trailers can properly fit behind them.
It still needs a lot of work, adding the extra light options and probably also some cargo (at least for the wood trucks) as well as the random selections. But it is about the time I start to think about a fallback gimmick and of course a preview mod.
Looking at the asset menu there may be room to add maybe a few more trucks, so if anyone has special requests now is the time to ask. Especially when based on a H0 scale model you can easily tempt me to make it.

Es ist kein Bug, aber die neue mittige Anordnung der Checkbox-Zeilen in den Einstellungsfenstern finde ich unansehnlich und verwirrend.
Alles andere ist links, nur die Checkboxen sind auf einmal mittig - warum nur
Agree!
The new alignment of the select boxes doesn't work as nice with my intended use either.
Hope it will be corrected/reverted

Also very pitty the Resizeable Parameter Window mod from VacuumTube is no longer compatible.
Another thing I noted with the Beta is that the model editor doesn't load the standard vanilla items anymore, which makes using these in your own mods quite a bit harder.

Hello dview,
I love your creations! I think I asked this a while ago, but would you also like to design a vehicle set from the 60s or 70s? Maybe buses too? You make such great vehicle mods that the question just comes to me again.
Hi Bahntroll,
Thanks for the nice words
.More car sets are definitely on my wish list too, but I need to say there is much more on my wish and to-do lists and time is limited.
I am thinking about a few cars for an '80 set as the VW Golf 2 is high on my wish list, though realise that only that could keep me busy for the rest of the year. So maybe I'll just do one or two cars ... hmm didn't I say something similar before starting the 00's pack
...Also on trucks I want to do more, now I only offer 5th wheel trucks no trucks with trailer ... English doesn't distinct this but in German thats "Sattelzug" versus "LKW mit Anhänger" and that will change with a 2nd mod for the 'new' DAF. And a few other trucks are in a very early state already.
And somehow I also have the desire to improve my earlier mods, already over a year ago I stated I would improve and update my very first published mod, the Jaguar SS and to date still have not started working on that ...
So honestly before I get to making a 60s and/or 70s set it probably is like 2026 and we'll be in TpF3 ...
For buses I do feel there is already a lot available and being released, so I'll leave that for other modders to fill.
Currently on top of my to-do list are
- DAF F241 Truck set 1 (Sattelzug)
- DAF F241 Truck set 2 (LKW mit Anhänger)
- update for Scania 3series, found a few improvements/corrections need to be implemented
- update for Iveco Turbostar, also a few improvements/corrections need to be implemented
first after that is a bit more grey area;
- update for DAF N2800, I want to improve it quite a bit and add more for the Schwarzbau asset
- update for the Construction vehicles, adding a pallet fork and maybe more
- more 'Vanilla with a touch of Bko', derived from the Schwarzbau UG trucks
- 00's road traffic sets
- update for the crashtenders, finaly making different load and unload animations
...
but that's already too much, possibly some of that will never get done as that nasty thingy I started with already popped-up again "time is limited" ... making the mods takes more time then the speed I'm rolling them out in might make some think. And I do not want to set wrong expectations, I'm just modding what and when I feel like it. So best motto is; Expect nothing and be surprised by everything
, sometimes I also surprise myself
GreetsPS, asking never hurts. If you put a seed in the ground, you may get a tree

Question, which menu for the driving vehicles do you like best?
A. a menu like I used for the Scania 3-series with a separate entry for each trailer variant.
B. a menu like I used for the Iveco TurboStar, with a single menu entry for the truck.
C. a menu entry for each trailer type that will be shared across my truck mods.
thanks already for the feed-back

Think I don't spot the Audi AVUS there yet

Test run for the 'new' DAF is looking good, I really get the 'Modellbahngefuhl' seeing truck I had on my layout back in game.
I'll start on the asset this weekend, still a lot to do and I have many more ideas for this truck, so plenty to come

Today I worked on the wood trucks, and made a light bar addon for this.
The cargo is wood-only with vanilla items, somehow it doesn't show nice in the model-editor screenshots, in game it looks better. I'm testing the driving version to try to fine-tune the turning of the dolly, the stakes and the cargo in a nice fit, it won't get perfect so I think I'll do with where it's now at.
The Felbermayr variant deviates as that carries steel and stone and has a detached dolly.

Hallo!
Similar problem in the Iveco Turbostar pack.On "Arcese" trucks the correct wording is: ARCESE TRASPORTI, not TRA(N)SPORTI.
Bye

So loveley!
But as for the "Tom Schanks" truck: It is spelled without the "C". It is "Tom Shanks". Or did you add the C on purpose, because off copyright?*EDIT* The driver's cabin shows the right name. It's the trailer which has the wrong label.
oh dang, you are very correct, I completely overlooked that.

-
Painting continued, now some extra variants for the container trucks and the tank trailer;
-
Four more trucks with the flatbed trailer are about done, including a few custom cargo items.
-
For now the last 3 models from the Herpa Archiv.
I'll add some variants on these and of course some more repaints, but also still have to do all the road vehicle and cargo settings, so it will keep me busy for quite a while still.
-
And yet more vehicles from the Herpa archives.
I'm curious if anyone here had a version of these on their model rail road layout, if so leave a comment pls.
And if someone knows what the text on the rear of the "Trill" (the green one) trailer says also pls let me know.
For now I went with some probably incorrect German grammar "Trill schützt die Gesundheid des Vogels".
Still a few more trucks from the Herpa archive to come, perhaps I'll also add some more trailers for those, although the trailer variety for this mod is already large, so maybe not ...
-
Some more models are painted, see here the Herpa models that inspired me and my version on them for TpF.
It's making me happy already
and more is to follow -
Completing the Gold and Brown series with a 2 axle standard cab and a 3 axle with an integrated spoiler. The original Herpa models of these didn't come with a trailer, but I including some anyhow.
Also including a customized one with some after market extra's, I had a model modified just like that on my model layout, the trailer is an extended version of the 10m city trailer, due to game limitations the rear axle of the trailer will not turn on the driving version, for the asset I'll look to include it.
