  • Hi, it is possible to change the soundset/horn but it will be more effort then a simple copy and paste. If we are not talking about a manually installed mod (which means it is a Steam MOD or a vanilla vehicle) you will also have to create your own mod (so that your changes will not be overwritten again). What exactly needs to be done depends what you are exactly planning (complete sound set or only horn) and how the involved vehicles are structured. It would help to be more specific if you tell us which vehicle/mod you want to use as source and which one you want to change.

Generraly spoken: For each vehicle (also every repaint) the soundset and the used horn is defined in the *.mdl file. In the block soundset you will find information which sounds/horn should be used. The referrenced path/filename needs follow a defined name convention/structure. You will find further information here: https://www.transportfever2.com/wiki/doku.php?id=modding:vehicletypes&s[]=soundset

Thank you. I shall give this a read over. I was using copy and paste in the vaguest of terms. Which is the best program to edit the files with?

  • You can use any text editor for the files (like *.mdls). The editor in windows would do it but I would recommend Notepad++ (much more helpfull functionality). Also very good (but maybe needs a little more induction) is Microsoft Visual Studio Code. All mentioned programms are free.
