  • I tried to launch the game after downloading it, first download with no mods, but each time the game closes on it's own and I get this message :

    Exception type: Lua exception

This error is usually caused by modding. Some game resources contain incorrect data.

    Details:

Error message: [string "res/config/climate./._dry.climate.lua"]:1/ unexpected symbol

    File name: res/config/climate./._dry.climate.lua

If it can help in any way, I tried to open the game using a 2020 M1 MacBook Air, the game is downloaded on an external SSD.

  • In principle, the dry.climate.lua is a file that comes with the game installation and not with a mod. Its name is, as mentioned, "dry.climate.lua", it should not start with a "._". Its first line ought to read " local maputil = require "maputil" ", which is a completely legal LUA command.

In which shape does the download come and how is it unpacked on a Mac? I do not use one but have seen issues with the unpacker on such a system that resulted in the game .lua files getting filled up with gibberish lines reading _0_0_0 or similar. This was traced back to the used Mac unpacker (Gunzip?) being incompatible to a mods .zip file.

Again, I am unfamiliar with Macs, but were I in Your shoes, I´d contact the game seller You bought the game from and have him advise the proper installation method.

  • I went in the game files to check the first line of dry.climate.lua using vs code, it was the same as you described. However, the file name in the directory was called dry.clima.lua instead of dry.climate.lua (same for temperate and tropical), maybe that's the cause of the problem ?

I installed the game through Steam so I didn't have to unpack it manually, I checked through the properties in the Steam launcher to check the integrity of the game files but It doesn't detect any mistake, I don't really know where to go from there.

  • You are right - it is dry.clima.lua on my system as well.

Just a total stab in the dark. Do try removing the ._ from the filename and see how the game reacts to that. This would be easily mended again, should it not lead into a good direction.

If the game starts then - perfect. If it complains about a different filename starting with ._ , I guess the drill is clear. If the situation is unchanged, I´d consult the publisher.

  • After a bit of researching I found the solution, MacOS basically creates a duplicate of a file that contains metadata about it with the "._" extension, there's a utility in the terminal to erase them, I still need to figure out how to make it work but it should fix the problem.

Thanks for your help tho !

Can you please specify this answer? Which Terminal utility does it fix?
