Some time ago I got a request from Franzl to paint one of his other beauties. As a true gentlemen, I forgot about it... :S
A couple of weeks ago he (very politely) asked me if I still would paint the prototype BBÖ 83... But of course.

Flushed with shame and better late then never, we will bang it out shortly. A picture of the progress thus far, the ÖBB
    version of the BBÖ 83:

    1. The bake-map is always very much appreciated, because it not only clarifies the mapping - but nicely emphasizes the shadows in the texture and outlines the weathering lines
    perfectly.

    2. Of course there will be variants, as usual! The original release will feature all "regular" liveries: DRG, DB & DR.

Im schlimmsten Fall benötige ich 2 Texturen.... plus eine für den Tender....

Naw, many parts do not need that much room. But two textures, one for the locomotive and one for the Tender is
a good idea. Leaves more room for texturing detail.

By the way - who's doing the textures?

Don't you worry @Swiss Railways , feel free to speak German. I can understand it and speak it fluently, but my written German
    is horrid.

I'm a bit afraid of the normal- and UV-map, because i've never done that. I'll have to learn it

I could say it's easy, but that might not be true. You might say modelling is easy, but it's (censored) "abacadabra" for me.
Of course it can be quite rewarding to be the sole author of a mod, but ponder over the question if you actually want to do the
texturing and stuff. Many modellers here like to do modelling, but abhor the texturing - they ask other people to do it for them.
This community is big enough to lay down such a request.

On the other hand, I don't want to discourage you in the least to do it yourself!

Perhaps a suggestion: I love the detail, but you can save yourself a bit of work later on and save on
the polycount by not modelling particular details - details which any half decent texturer/skinner can
    do with normal mapping:

    - Windows and the corresponding frames (except for the sunvisors as seen in the picture)
    - Like @Onkel Ae 6/6 says: the "Feder"
    - Luftgitter
    - these kind of details as well:

Some features you just have to model, because they are just to cool to leave behind, in this case the "cut-out" factory name on the "Laufgang":

The rest of those details - do them with a normal map - it's less work, you don't really compromise on detail and it saves polys. Win-win-win.

Glaube man kann da eine Struktur "bake"n, die kein AO oder Schatten hat. Dann wirds nicht so dunkel, aber das Oberflächenmuster bleibt...

When it's about done I'll send it and you can fiddle around with it mate.

    Still to do:

    - make footplates
    - apply dirt
    - do the lettering and shields
    - apply dirt
    - fine tune colors
    - apply dirt
    - fine tune normal mapping
    - apply dirt
    - evaluate windows, lights and other parts that may need reflection and after that fine tune alpha channel
    - apply rust
    - apply dirt

After that's done, it will go to Bandion for last checks and/or repairs while I will make some additional skins
    (let's say 2 or 3?).

So, community: besides the Bentheimer skin - which additional skins do you want me to make?

EDIT: The Hello Kitty-skin is off-limits. @Engel81 would kill me. So. Don't. Ask. That. One.

Good to know, I had already determined the reds. But mind you, there is a slight difference between the model and the model as used by the Bentheimer.
As you can see, the model has the "original" roof, where the BE-version has a roof that has probably been modified at one point or the other. The model
resembles the roof as used in the picture of the BE 240 C. Wasn't the 240 B's roof not like that originally?

Well it's done already! Here it is:

Just kidding, got it in the shed and applied the first coat of paint:

I know, not the right red. And the stripe is not correct as of yet and there's
no windows and gitter and such, but that will follow later. Have faith!

I'll be cracking that whip later...
