Well, it's retrofuturism. Retrofuturism isn't allowed, it has to be actual futurism
But real futurism is just the bulk of us working at piece-rate Amazon Mechanical Turk or similar jobs, living huddled, impoverished and starving, in partitioned-out converted McMansions, 13 to a room, while our silicon valley and wall street overlords peddle ever-more-efficient rent-seeking apps and low-return investment options to us, while an impotent and gridlocked government leaves infrastructure to decay and ruin, all while the climate becomes more and more unlivable.
Practically speaking, that means a low demand for rail travel, limited capital for investment in new rolling stock or locomotives, and restricted axle loads for those few pieces of rolling stock ordered.
So retrofuturism it is...

Obviously won't qualify for the competition
Who says it won't?

So what's next? Is it going to be something Pennsylvanian again?
Mystery locomotive...

Nothing says "futuristic vehicle" quite like a cab unit...

Released -- I'll upload here when I get back from the bar if anyone wants. Still can't figure out why the whistle only works twice...
-
Now in the home stretch... just need LODs and texture touch ups... plus the aforementioned whistle problem

OK, I have the animations finished -- except the length is wrong. How can I determine what the appropriate time length for a "drive" event is?EDIT: ignore that, found out the correct length through everyone's favorite method -- painstaking trial and error. Think I'm going to abandon my original plan of properly balancing the wheels and just duplicate the valve gear system on both sides at the same rotation.
Looking good in-game now...

Question: I have a custom PRR-style banshee whistle for this locomotive, but it only sounds the custom whistle the first two times you start a session, then reverts to a dumb default whistle. What is causing this, and how can I avoid it?

Does animation export currently work properly? I've been trying to export a single part of a valve gear system with several keyframes, and when I open the .msh file there are no keyframes exported, only:
CodeAnimations = { Anim_1 = { Params = { Keyframes = { }, Origin = {0.0, 0.0, 0.0,}, }, Type = "KEYFRAME", }, },which isn't very helpful...
-
Nah, I got nothing -- managed to bake all the animations and key them properly, hit export, and "poof" it condenses 50 keyframes into:
Codeanimations = { anim_1 = { params = { keyframes = { }, origin = { 0.0, 0.0, 0.0, }, }, type = "KEYFRAME", }, },I don't think this is an issue because of the number of keyframes -- it does the same thing when I try to export the combination lever which was animated manually and has only six keyframes...
EDIT: ignore this, turns out it only works with relative keyframes. Works like a charm now!
-
I have the valve gear set up to a satisfactory degree now in blender using a series of constraints -- there's some jerky motion in the extension link and the combination lever but I don't think it will be so noticeable in game. How do I export these objects with the animations intact? I've baked the action to the mesh, and included the animation in the Train Fever export settings, but it exports with only a single keyframe...

Hi,
Working on a K4s, close to finished.

I'm having a lot of difficulty with animations -- I can't get the connecting rod to work correctly. It goes in an oblong vertical arc at the wheel side, and moves quite a lot vertically on the piston-side as well. I have the origin of the object at the same point as the piston's origin -- is this incorrect?

oh it's definitely scaled correctly

well they're pretty big.

working on the Pacific Electric "Blimp" cars... so named because they were so huge when 5-6 of them would pass by on the street.
Steel interurban and MP54 pictured for comparison. These ran on what is now the LA Metro Blue Line on both dedicated right-of-way and mixed traffic. They were essentially converted mainline passenger cars.
-
@Spacek531, I think Urban Games scaled down the American trams to fit their narrow-gauge tram tracks. (Bizarrely, I think the length is still right, but the width is wayy too narrow on the PCC, at least.)
Interurbans were more halfway between standard gauge railroad rolling stock and trams anyway, it should be expected for them to be a little oversize.
Just uploaded version 1.4, which includes the steel interurban.

hi I'm monolingual and also a dumb person who doesn't thoroughly test mods (beta testers requested; apply here or anywhere really) but I will try to fix your deutsche problem in american:
so far as I can tell if you have the latest version and install as recommended by the latest instructions (extract donoteat_baltimorepennstation_1 into your trainfever/mods folder) y'all should be fine. anything beyond that is past my comprehension.

I have a .03% J class mesh on my drive. Ain't priority 1 but it's there...

@marsianer112, I live a few blocks from the old Baldwin plant...
The PA was an odd choice, I think, when the F-unit was so much more famous and more common. if they wanted to be aggressively weird, they should have done sharks.
more issues:
-stake cars inaccurately described as "centerbeam" cars
-HHP-8 is not available until 2010, coincidentally the year Amtrak and MARC decided they were too much trouble to maintain and started seeking replacements. should be available in late 90s.
-no late passenger diesel engine. played through until 2010 and am still hoarding PA/PB combos because nothing beats them later on.
-tractor trailers tend to get stuck in truck stations when there's a bunch of them
-peterbilt 359's top speed is too low to cover the 900 miles from atlanta GA to texarkana TX and back in under 28 hours. it should also be painted like this.
