Game: Transport Fever 3, Steam, Windows 11 Pro 25H2 (build 26200), launch build (2026-09-29)
Account: mod.io via Steam login (BeautifulCheez). Registration is complete and the email is confirmed. Browsing, subscribing and downloading all work.
What happens:
Publishing any mod from the in-game Mod Manager (Staging Area, publish, "Update Metadata" ticked, "Set Public" off) fails after about 15-60 s with:
"Upload Failed - Please check your network connection and try again later. (Error Code: 20489)"
stdout.txt shows, for every attempt:
WARNING ModioAsyncThread Error while submitting new mod: An error occurred making a HTTP request
[Http] Function 1 returned error code 2ee2 (0x2EE2 = WinHTTP 12002, ERROR_WINHTTP_TIMEOUT)
Reproduced on 3 different mods (11 KB to 8.5 MB), all of which pass validation with no issues, over 5+ attempts, with logos from 1920x1080 (2.7 MB) down to 1024x576 (570 KB). It also still happens after logging out of mod.io and back in.
Network evidence (packet-level, from a Zeek sensor on my LAN):
- Every failed attempt is a TLS 1.2 connection to g-10640.modapi.io (Cloudflare 172.64.155.112 / 104.18.32.144).
- The client sends the whole "submit new mod" request body (the size matches logo plus metadata: 1,757,631 bytes with a 1.74 MB logo, 2,634,462 bytes with a 2.62 MB logo).
- Cloudflare TCP-acknowledges every byte, then sends no HTTP response at all. On a clean capture of one attempt only 2,953 bytes of payload came back: the TLS handshake plus bare ACKs.
- After the timeout the client resets the connection.
- The same PC and network can POST a 2.5 MB multipart body to the same endpoint with curl in 1.7 s and gets an immediate HTTP 401 (unauthenticated, as expected). Firewall, IPS, proxy, blocklists and MTU were all checked and are clean.
Because the server received and acknowledged the full body but never replied, this looks like the client's multipart request not matching what the server expects (for example a declared Content-Length larger than the bytes actually sent, so the server keeps waiting), or the submit endpoint hanging on the server side. It does not look like a network problem.
mod.io's website says TF3 mods can only be uploaded with the in-game tools, so there is currently no way to publish. Is anyone else able to upload, or seeing the same thing?
Update: ticking "Set Public" makes no difference, it fails the same way. Other people are creating new mods today without problems (41 mods went live today), so it seems specific to my uploads or account (created today).
---------- Deutsch ----------
Spiel: Transport Fever 3, Steam, Windows 11 Pro 25H2 (Build 26200), Release-Version (29.09.2026)
Konto: mod.io über Steam-Login (BeautifulCheez). Registrierung abgeschlossen, E-Mail bestätigt. Durchsuchen, Abonnieren und Herunterladen funktionieren.
Problem:
"Upload Failed - Please check your network connection and try again later. (Error Code: 20489)"
Error while submitting new mod: An error occurred making a HTTP request
[Http] Function 1 returned error code 2ee2 (0x2EE2 = WinHTTP 12002, Zeitüberschreitung)
---------- Update / Nachtrag ----------
EN: A minimal test mod (1 KB logo, one-line description) got further: the mod entry was created (ID 6414396), but uploading the mod file then failed. mod.io returned a server error:
[Error][Http] Non 200-204 response received: {"error":{"code":500,"error_ref":0,"message":"Unexpected server error encountered. Please try again later."}}
followed by the same 2ee2 timeout, and the in-game message "Uploading mod file: ... (Error Code: 20489)". So this is a server-side error on mod.io, not the client or network.
[Error][Http] Non 200-204 response received: {"error":{"code":500,"error_ref":0,"message":"Unexpected server error encountered. Please try again later."}}
---------- Update 2 / Nachtrag 2 (18:38 UTC) ----------
EN: A later attempt with a real mod got further: the mod entry was created with logo and metadata (ID 6414403), the mod file upload reported success, and only the gallery image upload timed out ("Uploading gallery images ... Error Code: 20489"). A retry (with "Set Public" ticked) then failed at the mod file step again. Every attempt that reaches the file upload gets the same response from mod.io for one of the two cooked builds (.cooked_pc / .cooked_console):
{"error":{"code":500,"error_ref":0,"message":"Unexpected server error encountered. Please try again later."}}
So uploads work only intermittently and mod.io is returning server errors (HTTP 500). @Urban Games / mod.io: could you please look at the mod file upload endpoint for TF3?
{"error":{"code":500,"error_ref":0,"message":"Unexpected server error encountered. Please try again later."}}
