  • Easy, Gentlemen...

If messages travel between multiple languages, things will, not may, get lost in translation. If someone writes in his native Czech, then sends his contribution through an electronic translator to achieve English, nuances will get removed. Then the second step to German is taken, electronically or not, and again, meanings will change.

Please cut each other some slack here and do not assume aggression unless clearly there and delivered in the original language.

  • Yes, I won't say anything, if you're rewarded for it, for example, by the winner receiving 8 euros on a PayPal card, then there would be some logic to it, for example

That’s no problem—we can make that happen. You simply donate €10 to the website every month using the tag "SSC," and from now on, the winner will receive the money each month.

  • That’s no problem—we can make that happen. You simply donate €10 to the website every month using the tag "SSC," and from now on, the winner will receive the money each month.

And why would I donate something? I don't have any competition in place where you don't get anything in return. I pay people in another game where I have people in my company in ETS 2 and the one who has the most kilometers traveled in a whole month gets 500 to 1,000 crowns on the paysafecard. Otherwise, people have no motivation.

  • Well, it's still quite simple.

People submit screenshots here just because they want, and every month the submitted screenshots are voted for by the community.

What you get from winning is the knowledge that you are able to create good-looking scenarios - so good-looking in fact, that you outcompete the other contenders. As an added bonus, you also get to choose the theme for the next month.

People here just do it because they want, the competitiveness is just playful. There has never been any demand for winning anything of monetary value, and by design this would be hard for a community-driven contest that exists just to admire the scenes others come up with.

I've spent nearly 8 years on this forum, and in all this time you're the first person that questions this system and (seemingly?) has a problem with it.

Please just accept that this contest doesn't want to achieve any wider goals but entertain the audience.

The reference of MaikC was that if you have an issue with the fact that one doesn't "gain" anything from this contest, then you're free to provide the money that could be used as a price. Until now, nobody has seen any reason for a price to be necessary here, though.

I don't really care, I'm just saying my opinion, when starting this competition, someone didn't think it through. Why should people come up with picture themes every month? I've already mentioned it here, everyone shows their pictures from the game and people vote, and it doesn't matter if the picture shows a train station, bridges, tunnels, mountains or castles. Anything can be on the picture and people would vote for the 3 best pictures? But if those 3 people have something to do with it when they try to somehow improve their map in the game and the person then gets nothing for that effort, this seems rather illogical to us, because the person spends hours doing it, otherwise I don't think it's bad. But if a person comes up with something, then the person also thinks it through

  • NightWallker, this contest has been run for a long time and still many people are entertained by it. Either by taking part themselves, or by just enjoying a look at the contestants picture entries. If You take a look at the entries over the years, it seems that indeed a sizeable group of people not only come up with new themes, but also with pictures, to keep it running.

What it is not is: obligatory. If someone likes to take part, he is most welcome to do so. If the contest is not to another ones liking, he can just walk past it and do something else with his time he finds more worthy of it, noone will try to hold him back.

See it as a friendly contest. See it as inspiration for Your own maps. See it as a challenge. See it as a thread to drop by in once in a while to look at what the community came up with, both on their maps and in their modding hobby, for Your personal enjoyment. Or see it as a pointless thing to spend Your personal time on, maybe even start an own contest under the rules You propose and see where this leads. All this is up to You alone.

Consider that some things are simply enjoyed for what they are and that some rewards are not monetary in nature, but may be even more desirable than a few shilling. So please abstain from trying to rain on the parade here.

Thema "freies Bauen"? Ganz einfach.
